2007 CoolZ ZST-1 Stratocaster - Fujigen-Built MIJ with C.F.S.
CoolZ was the in-house guitar brand of Shimamura Music, Japan's largest music retail chain, and the instruments were built by Fujigen - the factory behind many of the most respected Fender Japan and Ibanez guitars. Because CoolZ was sold only through the Japanese domestic market, these guitars rarely surface outside Japan.
This example dates to 2007 (serial I070075, stamped on the rear of the headstock together with "MADE IN JAPAN" and the C.F.S. patent number). It features Fujigen's proprietary Circle Fretting System, in which the frets are installed in a slightly curved shape so the strings cross each fret at 90 degrees, improving intonation and note articulation. The metallic teal finish is a far less common choice than the usual sunburst and black.
The electronics on this guitar have been upgraded, and the tone controls are wired to work on the neck and bridge pickups - a practical improvement over the stock Stratocaster layout, which leaves the bridge pickup with no tone control at all.
