Fernandes FJB-65J Fretless Jazz Bass - 1981 Japan Vintage
This is a
Fernandes FJB-65J
, a fretless Jazz Bass model inspired by Jaco Pastorius, as indicated by the "J" in the model name. Based on the neck date, it was made in
1981
.
The body is solid Sen (often referred to as Japanese ash), with a maple neck and a round-lam rosewood fingerboard.
Although fretless, the fingerboard has fret slots filled with maple, a very detailed construction.
The neck profile is a slim narrow cut.
The headstock logo has worn off, but traces of the so-called "disappearing logo" from the early 1980s are visible. These logos were known to fade with use.
The tuning pegs are reverse-wind type and have become somewhat stiff with age, but tuning stability is not affected. The bridge has been replaced with a spiral type.

neck joint plate has also been replaced

This model did not originally come with a pickguard.
There are small scratches and signs of use, but overall the instrument is in good condition for its age. The neck is straight, and while the fingerboard shows some minor dirt and wear, there are no serious issues.
