Product Description

1982 Yamaha SG800S - Rare Metallic Blue - Made in Japan

Up for sale is a 1982 Yamaha SG800S in the highly sought-after and rare Metallic Blue finish . Known as the younger sibling of the legendary SG2000—often hailed as the "Les Paul Killer" —the SG800S embodies the peak of Yamaha's golden era in the early 1980s, combining soul, power, and world-class craftsmanship.

This guitar features set-neck construction , a carved maple top , and a solid mahogany body , utilizing Gibson's classic tonewood combination but executed with Yamaha's renowned precision. The neck employs Yamaha's patented T-Cross System , a three-piece design with maple sandwiched between two pieces of mahogany, enhancing stability while delivering a rich tonal character that blends warmth with clarity.

Tonally, it delivers tight, punchy lows, silky highs, and excellent note definition . The pickups have been upgraded to DiMarzio PAF humbuckers , offering a more powerful and articulate voice. Yamaha's Bi-Sound coil tap system is still functional on the bridge pickup, allowing shimmering single-coil tones at the push of a knob. Please note that the neck pickup's tone pot has been replaced and no longer supports the Bi-Sound function.

This SG800S comes with its original Yamaha hard case from the period.
Weight: approx. 3.7kg .

Condition Notes

  • Honest playwear consistent with age.
  • Multiple scratches and dings on the back of the body.

  • The neck is straight, and while frets show minor dents, there is plenty of life left with no buzzing or dead notes.
  • No cloudy finish, often seen on vintage Yamahas, and the metal hardware shows minimal wear.
