1977-1978 Yamaha SA700 "Super Axe" Semi-Hollow - Natural, Made in Japan
Yamaha's take on the classic 335 format, built during the golden age of Japanese guitar manufacturing. The SA700 was produced from 1977 to 1983 and remains one of the most highly regarded semi-hollow models of the Japan Vintage era.
This example wears the Natural finish, which is seen far less often than the Persimmon Red version, and has aged into a deep golden hue. The serial number 002202 places it in the earliest production range; documented examples with adjacent serials (002204 and 002287) are dated to 1978. A laminated body with center block, one-piece mahogany neck and a bound rosewood fingerboard make up a genuinely well-executed instrument, and the level of fit and finish is exactly what collectors mean when they talk about Japanese craftsmanship of this period.
