1980s Casio EG-5 "Eleking" - Electric Guitar with Built-in Amp, Speaker and Cassette Deck - Made in Japan
One of the most distinctive electric guitars to come out of 1980s Japan. Casio poured its consumer-electronics know-how into a molded plastic body housing an amplifier, a speaker, a distortion circuit and a fully integrated stereo cassette recorder/player. In the Japanese domestic market it was sold under the nickname "Eleking".
As a guitar it is refreshingly simple - one humbucker, a volume knob, a fixed bridge and a maple neck - but the onboard cassette deck turns it into a self-contained practice and street-performance rig. You can play along with a tape, record your performance and monitor everything through the onboard speaker, all without a single cable. Power comes from six AA batteries or a 9V AC adaptor. This example wears the white finish and is complete with its Casio gig bag and Casio AC adaptor.

== WHY THIS GUITAR ==
The EG-5 is a genuine curiosity from the era when Japanese electronics makers were pushing into instrument building, and working examples with their original bag and adaptor are becoming harder to find - most surviving units turn up with untested or non-functioning tape mechanisms. This one has been checked through and functions correctly, which makes it equally suited to a collector's shelf, a lo-fi recording setup or simply a very entertaining couch guitar.
