1980s Yamaha FL-01 Flanger "PSE Series" Analog Flanger Pedal - Made in Japan
A genuine piece of Japanese vintage effect history. The Yamaha FL-01 comes from Yamaha's PSE (Professional System Effectors) line, a range of pedals designed in the early 1980s around a fully analog bucket-brigade delay (BBD) circuit.
The PSE pedals were engineered to be combined with Yamaha's dedicated SB-series pedal board system, which is why the FL-01 uses a system power connector in place of a conventional DC jack. Used on its own, it runs on a standard 9V battery. With four controls - Depth, Speed, Manual and Feedback - the FL-01 covers far more ground than a typical flanger: Manual sets the center of the sweep so the pedal can be used as a fixed filter, while higher Feedback settings push the circuit toward resonant, near-oscillating territory. Yamaha's PSE pedals were produced in far smaller numbers than the mainstream Japanese stompboxes of the same era, and clean examples are steadily getting harder to find.
