The SGV1200 is the top-of-the-line model of Yamaha's SGV series, a modern reissue-style take on the 1960s Yamaha SG offsets that surf and shoegaze players have been rediscovering in recent years. Sold as a Japan-domestic model with a list price of 120,000 yen, the 1200 received a package of parts found nowhere else in the SGV line.
Produced during the 2000-2004 period, the SGV1200 sits above the 300, 500S, 700 and 800 in the range. It pairs an alder body with a bolt-on maple neck and a bound rosewood fingerboard, and adds Yamaha's own vintage-styled locking tuners together with a proprietary tremolo unit using roller saddles for improved tuning stability under vibrato use. Gold hardware, a pearloid pickguard and the unmistakable offset outline give this model a look that is instantly recognizable.
